Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85/15) or ground turkey
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage optional, for extra flavor
  • 1 cup pizza sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 0.5 cup pepperoni slices
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded or sliced
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 bell pepper chopped
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns or brioche buns, garlic bread rolls

Instructions

Cooking the Meat and Veggies

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage (if using) over medium-high heat, crumbling it as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
  • Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until soft, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Incorporating the Sauces

  • Stir in pizza sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.
  • Simmer the mixture for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens.

Melting the Cheese

  • Add pepperoni slices to the mixture, then top with mozzarella cheese (sliced or shredded). Cover the skillet and cook until the cheese melts, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and serve the mixture on hamburger buns.

Notes

  • 1- Use cold ingredients for flakier biscuits.
  • 2- Taste the apple filling and adjust spices as needed.
  • 3- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
