Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk preferably full-fat for creaminess
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract or steep fresh mint leaves for natural flavor
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped semi-sweet chocolate bar

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, and peppermint extract until sugar is dissolved.
  • Cover and chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  • Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually 20-25 minutes, until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  • Add the chocolate chips during the last 5 minutes of churning to evenly distribute.
  • Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container, pressing plastic wrap against the surface to prevent ice crystals.
  • Freeze for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight, until fully hardened.
  • Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for a few minutes before scooping and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the ice cream maker bowl is fully frozen before churning.
  • Use high-quality chocolate for better texture and flavor.
  • For a natural mint flavor, steep fresh mint leaves in the milk and cream, then strain before churning.
