Brown Butter Dulce de Leche Rice Krispie Treats

A fun, tasty twist on the classic Rice Krispie treat with rich brown butter and sweet dulce de leche.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cut into even pieces
  • 10 oz marshmallows divided, 9 oz melted and 1 oz unmelted
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 cup dulce de leche
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional

Instructions
 

Make Brown Butter

  • Melt butter in a light-colored pan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it foams and brown bits form at the bottom. Remove from heat when it smells nutty.

Prepare Base

  • Add 9 oz marshmallows to the brown butter and melt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Stir in sea salt and optional cinnamon.
  • Mix in Rice Krispies cereal until fully coated, then fold in 1 oz unmelted marshmallows for gooey pockets.

Assemble Treats

  • Press half the mixture into a greased 9x13 pan. Spread dulce de leche evenly over the base, making small indentations and adding extra dollops for gooey pockets.
  • Top with remaining cereal mixture and press gently. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.

Notes

  • 1- Use cold ingredients for flakier biscuits.
  • 2- Taste the apple filling and adjust spices as needed.
  • 3- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
