Ingredients

Blackberry Balsamic Jam

  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries fresh is best, but frozen works
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar use good quality
  • 1 tablespoon sugar to balance tartness
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice for brightness

Sandwich

  • 2 slices sourdough bread or preferred sturdy bread
  • 2-3 ounces double cream brie sliced, adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter softened, for grilling

Instructions

Make the Blackberry Balsamic Jam

  • In a saucepan, combine blackberries, balsamic vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce heat and simmer, crushing berries with a spoon or masher, for 7-10 minutes until thickened. Let cool completely.

Assemble and Grill the Sandwich

  • Spread a generous layer of blackberry balsamic jam on one slice of bread. Arrange cheese slices on top, then cover with the second slice.
  • Butter the outside of both bread slices. Heat a skillet over medium heat, grill sandwich for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted.

Notes

  • 1- Use softened butter for even browning.
  • 2- Taste and adjust jam sweetness or acidity as needed.
  • 3- Serve warm with a side salad or soup for a complete meal.
