Ingredients

  • 1 lb frozen pearl onions preferably white
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 egg whites
  • 0.25 cup cornmeal
  • 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp oregano
  • 0.125 tsp cayenne pepper optional

Instructions

  • Partially thaw frozen pearl onions in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, then drain any excess liquid.
  • Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with egg whites, and one with a mixture of cornmeal, panko, paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, and cayenne.
  • Toss onions in flour, dip in egg whites, then coat in breadcrumb mixture.
  • Chill coated onions in the fridge for 10 minutes.
  • Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place onions in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 6-8 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • 1- Use cold ingredients for better coating adhesion.
  • 2- Work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding the air fryer.
  • 3- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
