Grandma’s Applesauce Cake
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup butter softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp allspice
- 1 cup applesauce preferably unsweetened
- 0.5 cup raisins optional
- 0.5 cup walnuts optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and allspice.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the applesauce until evenly distributed.
- If using, fold in raisins and walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
